个人简介

Pu Xiao worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (Switzerland) and the CNRS (France) after obtaining his PhD. He then joined the University of New South Wales as a Lecturer before being appointed Senior Lecturer and then promoted to Associate Professor at the Australian National University. He is moving his group to Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Professor. His research interests include green composite biomaterials, photophysical chemistry, photopolymerisation technology, 3D printing, and light-induced responses of materials. He has made significant contributions to the development of photoinitiators based on natural products for photopolymerisation, advanced manufacturing, and 3D printing of high-performance functional polymer materials.

 

报告摘要

Light-induced polymerisation is one of the most promising approaches for the fabrication of various polymeric materials due to its environmental, economical, and production benefits. However, existing photoinitiating systems present some significant challenges in green fabrication of materials: the photoinitiators are toxic to cells, they are not water-soluble, most of them require harmful high energy UV light to operate, and their low photoinitiation efficiencies are too low under the low-energy visible light. To address the aforementioned issues, it is necessary to develop novel nontoxic high-performance photoinitiating systems that allow clean radical (or cation) generation under mild conditions (benign visible light) for green fabrication of polymeric materials. In this seminar, an overview of our newly developed photoinitiating systems will be given. Then, the relevant mechanisms related to the photophysical chemistry of the developed photoinitiating systems will be discussed. Finally, the application of the high-performance photoinitiating systems for green fabrication and 3D printing of polymeric materials will be demonstrated.
